Shays' Office

Things are a bit depressing here. We're packing up and throwing stuff out. Hundreds of copies of the Connecticut State Constitution as well as a record of the office numbers of Congressman and Senators who served from 2007-2009 are in a dumpster in Bridgeport, if you're interested. We've also gotten a number of calls asking if Shays will run against Dodd in two years. Interesting idea... The answer, if you were looking for one, is that he has no idea yet. I would predict a victory if he did, though.

Maybe if he hadn't been such a RINO he might have actually managed to have a base. He lost because even republicans don't trust him, and exchanged one liberal for another.

Shays always stood on principle. He attempted to stop the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac debacle, but was shouted down by Barney Frank et al. Shays was right, and Frank was wrong.

If anything, Shays's weakness was his civility. Civility doesn't work well with thugs. Take some boxing lessons, Shays. Tell the people of Connecticut about Countrywide. And then take on Dodd.

Ignore the haters, kid. The more they bitch about "RINOS" the longer they'll wander in the wilderness, and probably off a cliff.

Civility may have been a weakness, but one thing you can say about the mentally challenged, they tend to be very friendly people. I've met the man on several occasions, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, we're better off without him.

But the one commenter is correct: He (along with Richard Baker of LA, a voice crying in the wilderness) was right about Fannie and Freddie when everyone else (Frank, the Congressional Black Caucus, etc.) was wrong about them. Give credit where credit is due.

As a CT resident and taxpayer, I have to say, I'm ambivalent about Chris' achievments and efforts, but then, being of the libertarian persuasion myself, that would be inevitable.

But I'd prefer an (apparently) honest, moderately intelligent RINO or democrat 'representing' me than a corrupt genius-grade politician of any stripe.

Defining issues of 2010 should be earmarks, voter fraud and outright corruption. Anyone who picks these up as issues will stand an excellent chance at unseating Dodd, who almost certainly benefits from at least two of the three issues.

Without addressing these issues, democracy cannot stand.

It would have helped if he'd kept his oath as a Congressman.

Instead he gutted the first amendment. His loss is a great day for America.

It's too bad that the Connecticut Republican party is so corrupt and filled with people who are Democrats in blazers. You've got to stand for something, and Shays didn't.

Would love to see Congressman Shays run (and win) in '10 and bring the Republican party back to New England

...against Sen. Dodd of course.

...but was shouted down by Barney Frank et al.

That's the problem with a large number of Republicans. They allow this sort of thing to happen. They may try to resist, but when they do, the lefties bring out their time-tested club - the race card - and start beating their opponents with it. And surprise surprise, all of a sudden it's quiet again, but with one hitch - that little problem that needed to be addressed? It wasn't. And as it turns out, it blows up a number of years later and guess what? Republicans end up getting the blame.

The more they bitch about "RINOS" the longer they'll wander in the wilderness,...

Yeah, right, further leftward lurches are going to fix the problem.

I grew up in Fairfield and interned for Shays in DC 12 years ago....I haven't always agreed with his positions (I'm definitely more to the right), but I think he's a truly good guy and I'm not sure how he could have held the district for so long without being a centrist. I was very sad to see him go down on Tuesday. Would be thrilled if he could unseat Dodd, who pretty much makes me embarassed to be from CT (which is saying a lot, since I now live in San Francisco and have much more to be embarassed about from my senators/representatives).

(I'm happy to have found this blog -- a nice connection to home!)

I think Shays should run against Dodd as well. I think he may be the most financially incompetent banking chairman in decades. He is up to his neck in sweetheart deals from Countrywide while other Americans lose their homes. I think the GOP will wipe the floor with a guy like Dodd.

A prior poster said he gutted the First Amendment. Well, he was no friend of the Second Amendment either, and earned an 'F" rating from the NRA.

I voted straight Republican on Tuesday, but could not bring myself to vote for Chris Shays. I voted for the Libertarian candidate, as I did in the prior election.

RINOs and others need to learn that we the people will not tolerate them suppressing the Bill of Rights.

I'm still sorry for him, because in many ways he was a decent guy. But for me, he disqualified himself through his active suppression of my rights.
