Comments on Obama

An interesting point from a comment on this article at the NYT:

...I have to tell my friends a true fact that most of you out there chose to ignore or dare not acknowledging, that is: America and Americans will not vote for a black candidate with a heavily sounding Muslim name who did cocaine in his youth and who has 1 year experience in the Senate.

You can spin Obama anyway you want and paint him anyway you want, but this is the narrative that my friends at the RNC will repeat ad nauseum and beat the American people will into submission. This same narrative cannot be used against Biden or Clinton or even Edwards.

Obama might win the primaries, but he will not win the general elections. This is politics and it has nothing to do with the personal or professional quality of Obama...

If he can still fold a bindle I just might be tempted to vote for him....

This is all rubbish. If the pundits believe that Americans will only vote for a white, male, European-background, Washington-entrenched candidate, then they need to wake up. America wants change, and they know that the same old politics-as-usual is not working. This argument works very much to Obama's favour, and people who can't see that are just kidding themselves.

Sounds good, Sue.

Richard, is that why Huckabee, the most standard overly-religious southern white Republican, just won Iowa with an overwhelming majority? I personally have no problem with it, and he is my top choice on the left, but I really don't think it will happen. America isn't ready. The North Eastern states, in which you live, are very ready. But that is in no way representative of the nation as a whole.
