Just over a decade after scientists cloned the first animal, the last major barrier to selling meat and milk from clones has fallen: The U.S. government declared this food safe Tuesday.
It's a remarkable breakthrough. Ten years ago marked primitive cloning, yet now the animals are so biologically identical (more biologically identical then before? I don't know) that the clones are actually considered by the FDA to be no health risk. They even seem baffled as to why people would consider the two products differently: It is beyond our imagination to even find a theory that would cause the food to be unsafe.
Not that the FDA was ever considered to be the most imaginative bunch...
